Off with his head

In which G.M. Norton seizes control of his follicly-challenged head.

A little over a year ago, I discovered that I was going bald. It was a shock to the system as I've always had very thick hair. It may sound short-sighted, foolish even, but I never thought that I'd lose my hair. Whenever I pictured myself in my more advanced years, I always had a full head of hair.

I've spent the last year or so coming to terms with the idea of losing my hair. I've also been keeping a very close eye on it. Alas, the top of my head has continued to thin and my already high hairline has crept further and further back.

In my periodical entry on my hair loss discovery, I stated that the idea of having a completely bald head made me physically sick. But as a realistic sort, I've actually warmed to the idea of sporting a sans hair look. So much so that I started to look forward to getting rid of my hair completely. It's a strong look, a statement.

Feeling that my hair was disappearing before my eyes and keen to take control, over the festive period I took the plunge and shaved my head.

Here are the results.

At this juncture, you may be wondering how I feel. Well, I can honestly state that I absolutely adore my new smooth look.

It's actually quite liberating to have no hair, and as a tactile person, I can't stop touching it. I enjoyed watching my beloved remove my hair with some clippers that I bought online. It was a cathartic experience taking a straight razor to my head afterwards, for an even closer look.

Do I miss my hair? No. Absolutely not. I'm bald and I'm proud of it. I challenged genetics to a duel and won.

  1. Looks good! I have played the entire field. Being both McLeod and rather huge, I had a Thor like pony tail in my late 20s but also a shaved head when my father had a bout with cancer when I was around 40. Bet I will happily repeat the latter but may never see those flowing golden locks again.

    1. Many thanks, good Sir! Like your good self, I've had all manner of hairstyles over the years, but I've never removed it completely. A very new experience but highly enjoyable.
